I can’t believe that my wedding is only 9 days away…well actually...if you go by my wedding site, it’s 9 days, 18 hours,  40 minutes, and, well – you get the idea.

I was just talking to Brighid a couple hours ago (my fiancée) and she was joking, saying the entire night, she’s gonna be taking me on a tour through her giant masterpiece because I literally have no clue of what to expect.

This thing is literally gonna be one big surprise to me!

There is SOO much detail, planning and precision that she has put into this wedding, that it literally boggles the mind.

And because of this and of course…MANY, MANY other things which she has continuously proven over our 4-year relationship…I am forever grateful.

Yes, I’m marrying the woman of my dreams.

She’s b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l , intelligent…warm…funny…compassionate…caring…and someone I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with.  I know, I know, I’m getting a little emotional, but I’m sure you can relate to my situation.

That feeling of butterflies in your stomach, the happy nervousness, the excitement of something in your life that is so special you can’t put into words.

Let me tell you, it’s an amazing feeling…and I want YOU to come and join the celebration with me.

So how bout this?

For the next 3 days my book “Home Fitness Secrets to Success” will be on sale for 30 percent off the list price.

This is something I normally NEVER do, but hey, it’s my friggin wedding…I think this would be a pretty good reason.

Don’t Put Your Body On Red Alert

If you were to survey 100 people and ask them what their fitness goals were, most would tell you - they want to lose weight.

And if you were to ask these same people their number one solution HOW they would go about doing it, most will say…

“I’m gonna go on a diet.”

When people say this, they might as well say…

“I'm gonna lose weight for a short period of time and then gain it ALL back plus more.”

Listen, you can’t expect to lose weight and keep it off permanently if you depend on dieting to be your solution.

If you are eating 2000 calories a day, and then suddenly, drop it to 1000 calories…do you honestly think for a second that you’ll be able to maintain this for a long period of time…of course not!

But the ridiculous Diet companies say you can…and guess what? You listen.

Why?

Because they know people are all about the “quick fix”…the “I want it NOW” solution…the drop “30 pounds in 30 days” plan.

Diet companies know that people are all about instant gratification with no effort.

They know that by recommending people to severely drop their caloric intakes; they will in fact lose weight…BUT at the same time…they aren’t in the least bit concerned about the long-term effects of what the diet does to a person’s body.

Because after a month or so…Good old reality sets in.

People can’t maintain the diet they’re on because they’re constantly cranky, ravenous, and irritable every waking moment of the day.

Just a hunch, maybe their bodies are trying to tell them something?  Maybe it’s saying…

STOP looking at your scale!  It’s NOT telling you the TRUTH of what’s really going on in here.  You’re cannibalizing all of your existing muscle and internal organs.  All of your metabolic functions are coming to a complete halt.  We are going to have to start storing fat to protect ourselves if you keep this up.  We are on RED ALERT, for God’s sake… PLEASE STOP NOW!

Get the idea.

Diets may help you lose weight in the short-term, but you end up destroying your body in the process.  You can’t expect to lose weight effectively if you use the “cutting calories method.”

Your body is too smart for that.  It’s like holding your breath under water…eventually, you’re going to need to come back up for air.
Here are some guidelines to follow that do not involve dieting or depriving yourself of calories.

1. Understand that your eating habits should be for LIFE and that developing a "habit" mindset instead of a "diet" mindset is the way to go.

2. Keep your muscle by eating frequently and never skip meals.

3. Use exercise to burn fat rather than diets to starve fat.

4. Make a realistic goal to lose 1-2 pounds per week and be patient.

That’s all for now my friend.  Have a great Memorial Day weekend!

Live for TODAY

When you talk to most people nowadays, you’ll notice that they’re either living in the past…dwelling on their previous failures or they’re living in the future being hopeful, but at the same time, pessimistic about what success may lie ahead for them.

This thinking is very destructive and doesn’t do you any good.

You can’t change the past, so why give it a second thought.  Yesterday is a cancelled check.

You can’t focus on the future, because it’s not here yet.  Tomorrow is a promissory note.

To be truly successful and live a fulfilling life, you must live for TODAY.

You must understand that every day is a NEW day.  It is a day in which you make decisions that will ultimately determine your success or failure.

Ask yourself…“What do I need to do TODAY that will help me move me closer to my goals?”

I’m sure you have an answer.  But the million dollar question is – Are you gonna do it?

Are you a person who spins their wheels every-day and accepts whatever life gives you OR are you someone that makes the most of each and every day and is in complete control.

I don’t know about you, but I’d rather be in control.

If you set and achieve daily goals for yourself, you’re taking control of your life.  You’re living a life with meaning.  You’re destined for success, but at the same time, you’re aware that success doesn’t come overnight.

True Success is made of mini-successes that eventually lead to one BIG mega-success.  Sure, you’re gonna make mistakes along the way, but we’re human beings.  We’re not designed to be perfect.  We learn from our mistakes and it helps us become stronger and better in the process.  You can’t be successful without failing first.

This message applies not only in fitness and health, but business, family, your finances or whatever is important to you.

Stop living in the past and criticizing yourself for your mistakes.  Stop living in the future and keep focusing on something that is not certain.

Make the most of your life and start living for NOW…for TODAY…and I promise you, success WILL come!

Jim Coughlin

P.S. I’ve been very hard at work on the Home Fitness Secrets to Success DVD program based on my book – http://www.fitnessandresults.com/homefitness_book.php ...And folks I promise you, when this amazing course comes out, it will revolutionize the meaning of “In-Home Personal Trainer.”  It will be the ONLY program of its kind to lead you by the hand, step-by-step on how to truly be successful with fitness and strength training.  I’m designing this program JUST as if I were to train you in person but WITHOUT having to spend thousands in the process.  This is not to say that the course will be cheap, but compared to hiring ME as your own in-home personal trainer…you would be crazy not to buy this program.  Please STAY TUNED!

So You're Getting Older...So What.

Ever since I became involved with fitness I have always heard the saying,

"Well, the reason it's harder for me to get into shape is because I'm OLDER."

In my opinion, saying this is just like any other excuse...

It's harder for me to get into shape because I'm busy with work.

It's harder for me to get into shape because I have bad genetics.

It's harder for me to get into shape because I can't get motivated.

It's harder for me to get into shape because it's raining.

That last one was a bit of a stretch, but you get my point.

Basically, you can make any excuse to NOT get into shape. Age just
happens to be at the top of the totem pole.

Obviously as you get older, your life becomes much more complicated.

You're consumed by your career, your family and many other responsibilities
all of which equate to more stress and makes it easier for you to rationalize to NOT exercise.

This is all understandable, but unfortunately, your body could care less!

Your body only functions at the efficiency you put it through day in and
day out. Your body was created to be USED. And as most people get older
they use their body less and less.

And this isn't a couple days or weeks or even months I'm talking about...as
people get older, they neglect their bodies for years!

And because they have done so, they have created huge deficits for themselves.
So AGE can be a factor for not getting into shape but only if you allow it to.
YOU determine how you take care of your body. Your body doesn't care of you.

Well, the good news is you can do something about this. It's called - Get up
off your Arse and start USING it!

And not just 3 times a week like some exercise books will tell you. I'm talking
every-day! Got it. Good. Until next time, train hard and train smart.

Regards,

Jim Coughlin

Is Your Strength Training Effective or Ineffective?

There are two types of strength training, effective and ineffective.  Pretty general statement...sure...but more times than not, stupid simple explains things best.

So what do I mean by effective?

I mean that in order to be successful, you must be progressive.  Strength training takes many forms.  There are machines, free weights, bands, cables, isometric, calisthenics; manual resistance... the list goes on and on.  Though, NONE of these types of strength training mean squat without pushing your body harder each and every time you work out.  Then and only then will it be effective.

What is ineffective?

Ineffective training is having the perception that "Just because you are doing it" moves you closer to being in better shape.  This is like driving a car without your lights on.  You must know where you're going.

I'm sure you've heard it many times before, but it bears repeating.  Your body will eventually adapt to any strength training program that you do.  The only way for it to change, is to challenge it by doing something more or trying something new.

This simple technique has helped me transform hundreds of my client's bodies for new ones.  Yet for sooo many people, this is often overlooked and is the reason why they constantly struggle.

I see people time and time again doing the SAME ole routine month after month after month.

And guess what?  Their body still looks the same as it did months ago.

I mean everyone hates to exercise.  That is a known fact.  But what the h*ll is the point in doing it, if you aren't going to do it the right way.  Obviously, you're just spinning your wheels and wasting time.

Some people workout just to feel better and I can totally respect that.  But why not take it a step further...Don't you WANT to look good too?

Think how much happier you'll be when you start achieving results because you realize that your strength training isn't working and you finally start to make changes.

These changes are simple.

The next time you strength train, either do more reps, sets or weight then you have done previously.

I'm not gonna sit here and tell you how many sets or reps or how much weight you should do.  That's not the point.

The point is, that in order for your strength training to be as effective as it can possibly be, you MUST be doing something different, but whether it's 10 to 100 reps, 3-5 sets, or 25 - 500 pounds is irrelevant.

What's important is that you should ALWAYS know what you have done previously and improve upon it the next time.

Once you have progressively continued to do more each and every time you strength train, you then change your routine all over again.  You could simply start with body-weight calisthenics, change to free weights then on to bands and change again and then again... It's that easy!

Now, if you are already doing this...that's great!  You are way ahead of the game.

If not, you should definitely start implementing it and start achieving the tone, sculpted and lean look you know you deserve.

Obviously, effective cardiovascular exercise and proper nutrition play a vital role to your total success as well.  Furthermore, this article is a VERY general approach to strength training.  There are many other factors that will determine your overall success, but I'll have to cover that in a future article.

Until then, remember that effective strength training is the only way to go and  it is my belief that if you are gonna go through the motions and do it ineffectively; you might as well not even do it.

How's THIS for Results...

Just finished my training with Deborah Godes last night and all I can say is WOW...my girl went out with a b-a-n-g!

When I last mentioned her progress with you, she had dropped 22 pounds, 22 inches, 10 percent body fat and gained 10 pounds of muscle in as little as 8 weeks!  This brought her previous weight of 161 down to 139.

Well, I just took her measurements and weight last night and how's THIS for results...

She dropped another 13 pounds, 7 inches, 5.6% bodyfat and gained another 5 pounds of muscle -bringing her total numbers to 35 pounds, 29 inches and 15.6 % body fat lost!  She NOW weighs 126 and her body fat is 24 percent...Unfrigginbelievable!!

I am so proud of her.  When Deb first started the training she mentioned that she had the perfect life...a perfect career, husband, daughter, house, you name it...the only thing that was missing was the perfect body and health.

Well, she got it!  And she got it by a LONG shot too!  In only 4 months time, Deborah completely changed her life!  I could go on and on, but I'll let her tell you herself.  To see Deb's testimonial and before and after pictures, go here - http://www.fitnessandresults.com/deb_success.php

That's all for today my friend.  I hope this inspires you to follow Deborah's lead.  Get started TODAY and give yourself the healthy, quality life you deserve.  Here is the link to get started -  http://www.fitnessandresults.com/getting_started.php
