Are YOU Gonna Be Another Statistic?

You've heard it year after year.

And I’m not going to tell you that JUST because the New Year is coming you need to make a change with your lifestyle. (I tell you that all the time)

Though, if having a new year’s resolution is a way to motivate you and get you off your arse, then by all means, that’s a good thing - let the calorie burning commence!

If telling yourself to finally exercise and eat right because 2007 and previous years have caused you to become overweight and unhealthy…then go for it.

But please don’t make the mistake of being gung-ho and then abruptly quit after a couple months like so many people do every year.

In order to be successful with fitness, you must have a concrete plan.

First, you must identify your goals.

And not just “I want to lose weight,” or “I want to look/feel better.”

That goes without saying.

You need to be s-p-e-c-i-f-i-c as possible.  That means exact numbers.

How much weight do you want to lose?  Exact number.

What size clothes do you want to be able to fit into?  Exact number.

What would you like your ideal body fat to be?  Exact number.

How many weeks/months will this realistically take you?  Exact number.

If you’re vague or unclear about your goals, then that is exactly what your results will be.

You need to pinpoint where you want to be, and the only way that can happen is if you set crystal clear goals.

Once you have established your goals, you need to ask yourself one of two questions…

To achieve my goals in the quickest time possible…

1. Can I achieve them by myself?   or

2. Do I need to hire a fitness professional?

The answer to this question is crucial to your success.  You MUST be honest with yourself.

If you can achieve your goals going solo, that’s great.

However, do not, I repeat DO NOT be afraid to hire someone to help you if you feel that you won’t be able to achieve the results you want and deserve if you tackle your fitness program independently.

If you can’t workout efficiently by yourself, look at personal fitness training as an investment.  Not just any investment, but one in your body.

If you’ve struggled with weight loss all your life, chances are good that the next couple months won’t be any different IF you don’t seek the assistance of a personal trainer?

Think how happy you’ll be when…

You’re (Exact number) pounds lighter!
You’re fitting into (Exact number) size clothes!
You’re body fat is (Exact number) and
You did it all in (Exact number) weeks/months!

The point of this article is…Don’t just be another statistic!  Don’t just be the typical person who fails every year with their fitness program.

You’re better than that...You deserve better.

You not only need to have a detailed plan, but one that actually WORKS.

Now, I know many of you reading this are already kicking arse and taking names with your current program (Great Job!), but if you know someone who needs help, PLEASE forward them this article before all of our trainers become booked up!

You Don’t Have to Be Perfect

With the Christmas holiday coming up, things tend to be a little hectic.

My good friend Frank has been worrying about his inability to exercise as often as he would like.  With shopping, partying, and family get-to-gethers, in addition to normal day-to-day activities, it seemed impossible for him to fit it in.

I was talking with one of my clients, Julie, the other day and she has 11 Christmas parties to go to!  Yes, you read that right - 11.  And you know they ain’t gonna be serving the most healthy foods at those parties.

So what should Frank, Julie and possibly YOU do in these situations?

First of all – Relax.

If you don’t follow your normal regimented exercise routine, it’s not the end of the world.

If you don’t eat the healthiest foods, you’re not going to gain a bunch of weight.  It’s not going to make or break you.

You’ve got to put things in perspective.

You’re not going to completely drop your exercise routine the whole month of December and gorge yourself with food every day.

If you ask me, it’s all psychological.  People love to worry.  They love to complain.  These are easy things to do.

Why not say to yourself – “During the holidays, I’m going to do the best I can to exercise and eat healthy – BUT… I’m not going to make myself feel guilty if I’m not perfect either.”

Remember, the enjoyment of life is JUST as important as exercise and goes hand-in-hand with a healthy lifestyle.

Jim Coughlin

P.S.  Speaking of healthy lifestyle, as I said last Tuesday, I will have a BIG announcement either Thursday or Friday this week sometime before 5pm EST.  And I can honestly say that in ALL of the messages I’ve sent you, this will be BY FAR the most important one you’ve ever received from me…DO NOT miss it!

Can a Trainer Make You Gain Weight?

Well, unfortunately, the answer was “yes” for one of my clients who used to work with a trainer at her local gym.

Now not to confuse you, I’m not talking about lean muscle weight - I’m talking about ugly fat.

After three weeks of working with this trainer, my client, Mandy, had in fact GAINED 6 pounds!

She was pissed.

So why did this happen?

Well, according to Mandy, the trainer walked her through a bunch of machines (which anyone can do), and didn’t document her strength training progress, which if you ask me, already screws her chances of seeing any results at all, but of course…it didn’t stop there.

The trainer also recommended that she followed the diagrams on the cardio machines to get a good cardio workout and basically had no clue about nutrition.

Now, how the heck can Mandy expect to see any changes in her body if the trainer she hired gave her a generic strength training routine, couldn’t give her a productive cardio regimen and didn’t know jack-squat about nutrition?

SHE CAN’T!

Yet in her mind, she thinks she’s the one who’s messing up and attributes this failure to many previous ones.

The sad news is - this type of thing happens every day.

Trainers who work at gyms usually have no experience, don’t get compensated very well, aren’t passionate and would much rather be doing something else.

Don’t get me wrong, there are some good ones.  But most if not all of them give me and other hard-working fitness professionals a bad name.

The good news is, in less than seven weeks, my client Mandy, has lost 21 pounds and over ten inches!!

Talk about happy.  Mandy is a completely different person.

She is still 60-70 pounds away from her goal, but this awesome jump-start has more than boosted her confidence and shattered any type of negativity she used to have toward personal trainers.

Mandy is definitely one of my BEST clients.  And it’s a shame that she wasted even one nano-second with this other previous gym-rat.

All Mandy needed was the right guidance.  And fortunately, that guidance was from ME.

From the very first time I spoke with Mandy, I knew she was more than capable of reaching her fitness goals.  She has done EXACTLY what I’ve told her to do and her results speak for themselves.

So if you’re reading this Mandy, kudos to YOU for persevering!  I’m so proud of you and I look forward to your many future successes!

As for the rest of you, don’t waste your money on trainers at the gym.

Do some research.  Get credentials.  Get testimonials from previous clients.  KNOW who you’re dealing with.  You may have to spend more money, but hey, this is your body were talking about here…right?

Anyway, that’s all for now.  Have a great week.

Best Regards,

Jim Coughlin

P.S.  Please note that I will have a VERY important announcement I will be making within a week.  So be sure to check your email in-box every day...you will NOT want to miss this!
