It’s Official – I’m Finally Moving to St. Louis!

Man, I’ve been waiting to say that for almost a year now.

If you didn’t already know, I purchased a house near the St. Louis area last year and was originally scheduled to move right after my wedding either in June or July.

But due to many complications, which I won’t get into, it didn’t work out.

Well, FINALLY, after my wife and I worked out all the kinks…it’s gonna happen!

Now, if you don’t live in the St. Louis area this means nothing to you.

However, and that’s a big however, if you DO live in the St. Louis area, this news could be life-changing!

As of March 1st, 2008, I will be accepting 5 lucky clients in the St. Louis metro area to privately train in their home.  I would accept more if I could, but my hectic schedule will not allow it.

The following are areas in which I will be able to train:

Clayton
Chesterfield
Ladue
Creve Coeur
Florissant
Hazelwood
St. Charles
St. Peters
St. Louis
St. John
Maplewood

There may be some areas that I’m missing here, so feel free to call our office at
1-800-845-9016 to check about your area.

Now, I probably don’t have to say this since you KNOW what kind of person I am.  But I’ll say it anyway.  Please understand that to be accepted as one of my clients, you MUST be serious about achieving your fitness goals.

If you’re someone who isn’t willing to work hard with strength training, cardio and nutrition, or you’re someone who is likely to cancel frequently…then please don’t bother calling or filling out a form.

But if you ARE someone in the St. Louis area who wants to get into the best shape of their life and is willing to do whatever it takes, then go here NOW – http://www.fitnessandresults.com/free_consultation.php.  I’ve personally transformed the bodies and lives of hundreds in the Washington D.C. metro area and now it’s YOUR turn St. Louis!! :)

Remember, I’m ONLY accepting 5 clients, so if you want me to be your personal trainer, I suggest you act RIGHT NOW before this opportunity quickly passes you by.  I’m very likely to get booked up by the end of the day or even within a couple hours!

Go here and reserve your spot NOW, before it’s too late -  http://www.fitnessandresults.com/free_consultation.php

Best,

Jim Coughlin

P.S. Again, here is the link to register for a FREE consult with me - http://www.fitnessandresults.com/free_consultation.php.  You can also call our office at 1-800-845-9016 and ask for “Frank.”  He will be happy to get your spot reserved with me.

Featured in “The Washington Times”

I was recently interviewed by Christian Toto of The Washington Times on a story about high-tech equipment and whether they’re helpful or not.

Well, along with some other trainers who are mentioned, I think high-tech gadgets aren’t necessary in the grand scheme of things.

As the article states, the only “gizmo” you really need is a heart rate monitor as they are a perfect tool for acting as your personal trainer when doing cardio exercise.  Measuring your heart rate manually isn’t as precise and takes too long.

Anyway, you can read more about “High-tech workouts” by Going Here

You’ll find my comments on the BOTTOM of the second page.

Any feedback is welcome.  Have a nice day.

You Don’t Have to Be a UFC Fighter

In the past year, I have grown very fond of the UFC aka the Ultimate Fighting Championship – www.ufc.com.  I’m like a junkie.

It’s a sport that many consider violent and controversial, yet if observed more closely is very exciting and epitomizes what sports should represent.

Surprisingly, it’s the only sport my wife likes.  Yes, this sport is entertaining for women too.

And the reason is simple.  It’s very fast and gets right to the point.  Someone gets knocked out or submitted and it’s over.

With other traditional sports such as football or baseball it usually takes 3 hours to determine a winner and most of time, my wife is bored and asking me questions.

But not with the UFC.  The longest a fight can be is 15 minutes or 25 if it’s a championship bout.

Anyway, I’m getting to my fitness point.  Another reason I like the UFC is because these guys eat and sleep fitness.  I mean, they make me look like a couch potato.

The fighters from the UFC are considered some of the greatest athletes in the world -training as much as 6 times a day!  Their strength and cardio regimens are beyond intense – they’re insane.  Yet that’s what they have to do to compete in the UFC.

Now think about your life.

You are NOT a professional athlete and you obviously don’t have time to exercise 6 times a day.  In fact, an hour or may be even 30 minutes is a stretch.

So let’s say 15 minutes a day is all the time you have to commit to exercise.  Well then, that’s great.  At least you’re doing something.

Sure, you’re not going to achieve the body of your dreams within a month, but at least you’re not making excuses either.

The point is, you’re making the commitment to be healthy.  And you’re staying true to yourself.

It doesn’t matter what other people are doing.  What matters is your following a fitness program that works for YOU.  Once you feel that 30, 45 or possibly 60 minutes a day is more suitable, well then, you’ll make that determination.

That’s all for now.  Remember, you don’t have to be a UFC fighter to be happy and healthy.  Just get started and the rest will take care of itself.

Best,

Jim Coughlin

P.S.  “The In-Home Personal Trainer” course I came out with over a month ago takes this EXACT approach.  You don’t have to start off full-throttle.  If (insert number) minutes is all you feel comfortable doing then that’s what you should start with.  Eventually, as you get stronger and build your endurance, you’ll progress to something more.  So what are you waiting for?  Get started right NOW by going here - http://www.fitnessandresults.com/tihpt_platinum_gold.php

60 Million Americans are FAT!

I was watching the tee vee the other day and was disgusted to discover that 20 percent of America’s population is obese.  Yes, 20 PERCENT!

So given that our population is about 300 million, that means 60 million people are currently overweight, fat and unhealthy.  I also saw that of those 60 million, 9 million are children!

This is absolutely reprehensible.

Instead of our kids playing at the playground like they used to, they’re now playing playstations.

Instead of parents packing healthy lunches for school (like my mom did when I was a kid), they’re now giving their kids “lunch money” which they most likely spend on fast food, soda and other crap.

Look, how the heck are our kids suppose to be healthy when we the “adults” don’t lead by example and can’t do the same?

We complain, piss and moan about exercising and eating healthy, yet our bodies are getting fatter by the day and our blood pressure is rising by the week.

If you were to research the average life expectancy in America you would find the number to be 77.7 years.

Well, who freaking cares if we live to 77 years old when most if not all of those years are in horrible quality.

It’s time to start taking responsibility.  And this responsibility starts with YOU.

Are you doing everything you can to live a healthy, productive life?

And when I say that, I mean…Are you exercising everyday?  Are you eating healthy (lean meats, fruits, vegetables, etc.) at least 6 days out of the week?

If you answered NO to any of these questions, well, you are NOT doing everything you can do and you’re contributing to the 20 percent of fat, unhealthy Americans.

You’re part of the problem – NOT the solution.

And to be quite honest with you, you can go ahead and stop reading this blog if you continue this trend.  What’s the point in me sending you these tips if you aren’t going to listen.

Yes, this may make you mad, but I really don’t care.  You need to hear it.

I’m sick and tired of people making excuses.  What more do I have to say?  I mean geez…read the headline again.  If that doesn’t motivate you and get your attention, NOTHING will!

Now, if you are exercising everyday, eating healthy and teaching your kids to do the same, good for you!  Spread the word. Encourage others to do the same. YOU are doing so much good for our country and for that, I commend you!

That’s all for today.  Let’s start taking some responsibility…Are you with me?

Jim Coughlin

Need Some Inspiration?

Just got a bunch of awesome emails from clients yesterday and I thought I'd share them with you.

As you know, I've been hootin and holleran about my recent product launch, but I also can’t forget how powerful one-on-one personal training can be.  Yes, it’s a pricey investment, but I think you’ll agree after reading these that it's not so much the price but the payoff that makes it WELL worth it!

Here they are...

When I first called for information about training services, I was skeptical. I have always been fairly fit and spent lots of time in gyms. My impression of a personal trainer was someone standing behind you and helping you lift something heavy. The ones at the gyms where I've belonged never seemed to know anything special or be all that different from friends of mine who work out a lot. But I needed inspiration and consistency after moving to a new city, so I signed up for the Total Body Makeover.

"This was, hands down, the best decision I made during my big transition, and one of the best decisions I've made in life!" I've always fought those 15 extra pounds, and really wanted to lose them, and to just be fit and toned. I also am a bit of a cardio-junkie, so Jim worked with me to develop a program that was harder, faster, and more intense than I've ever exercised before. The key was that Jim was flexible, and really listened to me when I told him I know what works for my body, and that I don't have much time during the day, so any hour I spent with him would have to incorporate both strength and cardio.

He listened, and, using his knowledge and what I had told him about me, pushed me to my limits for 6 weeks. "We mixed strength training and cardio and that, in combination with my changes in eating and drinking habits, I saw incredible results. I couldn't believe it, Jim couldn't believe it, and you might not either but, I lost 7 lbs. total (18 lbs. of fat! And converted 11 of them to muscle), went from 31.4% body fat to 21.1%, and lost 11 inches overall! I knew I felt and looked better, and that my clothes fit better, and that in general my attitude and mood were lifted, but I never expected results that drastic. Jim measured me 4 times in each spot to make sure!"

I never got bored during 6 weeks of training. We were jogging, sprinting, running stairs, jumping jacks, etc. etc., whatever we could do to mix it up and make it interesting and different. The best part? Jim was right there next to me, whether we were running around the monuments on a cold fall morning, choosing landmarks to sprint to, or running the stairs in my apartment building on a rainy day, he was always right there next to me, doing what I was doing. Jim is definitely not just a treadmill-button-pusher.

"So there it is. I am a total believer. Strength training, cardio, and nutrition adjustments (REAL adjustments -- calorie intake AND proper nutrition) guaranteed results!" The best part about Jim's philosophy is that he's flexible (not on nutrition, believe me....). He and his trainers will work with you, no matter what your goals are or how far you have to go to achieve them.

Kirsten White - Washington, DC

Jim,

Thank you for checking in. I'm really pleased with the training I have received so far. "Adam is hard-driving in the workouts and steps it up each time so that I'm pushing myself to the next level!" He is a great motivator and has a good touch on the difficult issue of how to keep me on track with eating and cardio in between sessions.

Andrea Durkin - Washington, DC

Dear Jim,

It's so funny that you'd email me today... Exactly one year ago, I turned 49. It was not a particularly happy day. :) But I made a list of things that I was committed to changing in the next year, and one of the most important categories was my physical health, fitness, and appearance. "I'm delighted to tell you that I have overachieved in that area, and much of the credit goes to Blake Ackerman."

"My training experience has been challenging, entertaining, and extremely rewarding. It has also been unexpectedly FUN!" To be honest, I was afraid to start working out... I was so out of shape and overweight that I doubted I could do it. But the program that Blake designed (and continues to evolve) for me has been varied enough to keep me from overworking any particular muscle group, bearable enough that I didn't give up in despair, and tough enough to deliver results.

"I am, in short, a very satisfied customer!" My thanks to you and Frank for making this kind of in-home program available, and for working with outstanding individuals like Blake!

Marcia Stanfield - Littleton, CO

Hey Jim,

My training is going awesome...I love Hannah!!! "I have lost six pounds ! :)" It has been slow because I ate too many good things over the holidays and I got sick. All in all I am greatly happy :)

Thanks,

Susanna Ruspi - Glenn Dale, MD

Hello Jim,

"I’m doing GREAT with the training. Gretchen is simply the BEST!!!" We have 3 more sessions together and I have learned so much and have reach goals I didn’t think possible.

Thanks for checking up on me. Have a great day!

Jeanne Raines - Keymar, MD

Hi Jim,

It's going great as far as I can see. Daniel really looks forward to working out with Eric. "I've noticed Daniel seems to carry himself a bit "straighter" and doesn't drag his left foot as much. That in itself was worth the money - And Erics personality fits Dan's demeanor as well - Daniel is also more "self motivated" now to go downstairs and work out even on his own - never did THAT before!!!

SO - so far so good! We MAY need to extend this a while - maybe at two times per week. We'll look at our finances, but in the mean time, we can take what he's learned, and combine it with your workout book which I'm starting to use, and we can plan on longer term gains on top of the improvements we're already seeing!

Thanks Jim, and we'll be in touch -

Marty Lepage - Columbia, MD (referring to his son Daniel)

The Healthy Habit

If you were to go through your day-to-day life, you would find a series of habits.

These habits could be anything from eating breakfast, brushing your teeth, making your bed, washing the dishes, driving to work, eating out at lunch, eating a big dinner, drinking, smoking, being disorganized and so on.

Again, these habits could be anything.  Some good, some bad, but one thing is for certain, you ALWAYS find yourself doing them.  It’s not even a second thought.

The same could be said for eating right and exercising.  These too are things that can easily be incorporated in your every-day life.

But the problem and where many people go wrong usually lies in not doing one, but doing the other or not doing each one consistently, which obviously, keeps it from being a natural habit.

As the saying goes, it takes 21 days to form a habit.  That means you must do something for 21 straight days and it will automatically become part of your daily schedule.  Miss one day out of the 21 and the attempted habit is void.

If you’re really serious about reshaping your body and becoming the healthiest person you can be for 2008, you must form 3 concrete habits.  Not 1.  Not 2.  But 3.

These habits are…

1. Follow a consistent strength training routine.
2. Follow a regular cardiovascular exercise routine.
3. Follow a healthy, balanced nutrition program.

Yeah, I know.  You’ve heard this a billion times.

Well, consider this the 1,000,000,001st time because many people STILL don’t get it.

If you’re ONLY following 1 or 2 of these 3 habits, you’re wasting your time.

Yes, following a cardio program and occasionally eating healthy is better than not doing anything at all.  Something is better than nothing…blah, blah, blah.

But let’s be honest here.  I think we’re way past that.

It’s time to start getting REAL.

Do you want to achieve the best results with your fitness program?  Yes or No.

If you answered “YES”…then I’ve got great news.

I am the only personal trainer in the fitness industry that has created the first-ever step-by-step personal training course that gives you the most interactive training experience possible.  This ground-breaking course will save you thousands - even tens of thousands compared to hiring a regular personal trainer

The program will not only show you EXACTLY what to do pertaining to your fitness program, but also motivate you unlike anything you’ve ever seen or experienced.  Go here - http://www.fitnessandresults.com/tihpt_platinum_gold.php to see what I’m talking about.

Now, if you answered “NO” or if you're not following the 3 things I mentioned earlier…well, you can go ahead and keep reading my blog.  But last time I checked, JUST reading something isn’t going help you achieve the end-result you want.  At the end of the day, "implementation" is the only thing that matters.

That’s all for today.  Have a good week.

Best,

Jim Coughlin

5 Tips to Ensure Fitness Success for 2008

Ok, 2007 is over and its time to get ready for the new year.

How do you ensure that 2008 is your BEST, FITTEST year ever?

Simple - follow these 5 essential fitness tips.

Yes, you’ve probably heard them before, but I promise you, like death and taxes, these guidelines will always work, but only if you consistently implement them.

By the way, these tips aren’t in any order of importance.  Each one is equally vital to your success.

1.  Write Your Goals Down

If you want to start your year with a huge bang, you need to not only know what your goals are, but they need to be staring you in the face day in and day out.

This can be done by purchasing 3x5 index cards and sticking them where you see them all the time – ie, your car, nightstand, fridge, office desk and so on.  If you’re visually reminded everyday what your goals are, this sets a great environment for you to successfully program your brain.

This tip has worked wonders for me for many years.  It keeps you focused, accountable and mentally strong.  Try it and you’ll see what I mean

2.  Make sure your program is convenient

Most people hate to exercise.  Yes, it can be hard and boring at times but another big reason people dislike it is because it’s inconvenient.  This is true when people join gyms.

I’ve said this before, but wouldn’t you much rather workout in your own home and be done with your routine within 30-45 minutes rather than adding an additional 30-45 minute commute of driving, plus having to deal with a horde of other people who get in your way and many other factors that will only deter you from consistently exercising.

Be honest, do you realistically see yourself taking 2 hours out of your day to exercise?  I think you know the answer.  You need something that is not only effective, but super- convenient and practical as well.  And my new course “The In-Home Personal Trainer” is the ONLY program of its kinds that accomplishes this.  If you were to look up “convenient” in the dictionary – you’d find my program right under it.  For more information, go here - http://www.fitnessandresults.com/tihpt_platinum_gold.php

3.  Stick to a Schedule

You have to be at work at a certain time.  You have to drop your kids off and pick them up from school.  You have to make dinner.  You have to go to an important business meeting.

These things all require a schedule.  And exercise should be no different.  You must schedule your exercise sessions, otherwise I promise you, it won’t get done.

4. Document Your Progress

This is HUGE.  If you have no clue where you’re starting off, how do you expect to be happy with your results?  You won’t, because it’s not possible.

You need to know what your body measurements and body fat are before you start your program.  You need to religiously document your workouts each and every time you exercise.

Time and time again I see people (and some trainers) NOT doing this.  Don’t be one of these people.  Keep track of everything you do and you WILL reap the benefits.

5.Don’t Give Up

Sure, this is a given but its something you need to hear.  Ask yourself…How important is achieving my fitness goals to me?

If you’re answer was “not that important” then you‘ll most likely give up.  If it was “very important” then you won’t give up.  It’s as simple as that.

All for now.  Let’s make 2008 great!

Yours in Total Fitness and Maximum Success,

Jim Coughlin
