Long-Term Training Packages!

I just wanted to give a quick update to those who have hired one of our personal trainers in the past or may be interested.

We are now selling special long-term personal training packages ranging from 12 to 24 weeks.

The reason for this is because I have found that the average client who initially signs up for personal training, does so at least 2-3 times afterwards.

So if you happen to be one of these individuals, I’m happy to say that you can now SAVE upwards of $32 to as much as $450 smackers depending on which fitness program package you're interested in.

The savings you get is compared to the price you would pay for a 6 or 8-week package.  The longer the package, the more you save.

To check out our long-term training packages, go here – http://www.fitnessandresults.com/rate_information.php

If you have any questions or you are interested, feel free to shoot me an email or you can call us at 1-800-845-9016 and ask for “Frank.”

I’ll be back sometime this week with another kick-arse fitness/motivational tip…have a great day!

Best Regards,

Jim Coughlin

The Power of Sprints

Getting ready for my soccer match tomorrow and my cardio training for past two weeks has consisted of nothing but wind sprints mixed with walking in between.

And I gotta say, I find this to be the BEST type of cardio training there is.

Why?

Well, not only do you burn a huge amount of calories in a shorter period of time, but the feeling you get from this type of conditioning is simply amazing.  Yes, they're hard, but once you get used to them, it’s totally worth it.

Typically, when you’re doing slow-intensity cardio or cardio in which you’re working at about 60 percent of your maximum heart rate, you’re getting a decent amount of oxygen to your body.  I would say you burn in the neighborhood of 300 calories per 30 minutes and 600 calories per 60 minutes.

But with sprints, it’s a whole new ball game.

For short bursts (I’ll explain in a little bit), you’re working your heart rate at 95-100 percent of its maximum capacity!

So not only do you burn somewhere between 400-500 calories in 30 minutes and 800-1000 in 60 minutes…but you  feel like you’re hooked up to a freaking oxygen tank!   And that’s because the higher your heart rate, the more calories you burn, the more oxygen your body consumes.  It’s a wonderful thing.

At first your body feels a bit stiff when doing them, but once you get two or three sprints under your belt and the juices are flowing, you feel great.  And after your workout is done, you feel like you’re on cloud 9 ther rest of the day.

You’re in a better mood.  You can think more clearly.  You don’t have cravings.  You’re much more productive.  Heck, just writing this makes me want to go do them…and as a matter of fact, I think I will. :)

But before I go, let me tell you how I do them.

Please don’t try this if you’re new to cardio exercise or you have sustained an injury that makes it hard for you to run.  Also, please make sure you have some decent running shoes.  Oh, and I do these outside right around my suburbia neighborhood where there is minimal traffic…so don’t try this if you live in the city.

Other than that, nothing is stopping you.

Here’s how I do them…

I start with a brisk walk for about a half a mile or about 4-5 minutes.  Once I feel warmed up, I start to sprint as hard (and I mean HARD) as I can for about 100-150 yards.  I then stop until I catch my breath (this lasts about 30 seconds to a minute) and then repeat this process for about 40-45 minutes.

That’s it.

Let me know how you do.

The More Motivation…The Better

Getting motivated to work out is one of the biggest challenges when maintaining a healthy lifestyle.  Regardless of who you are, there just always seems to be a part of your brain creeping up on you that makes you want to skip your routine.

While some people are not deterred by this temptation…many are.

And the reason for this is because these individuals have created a mental image in their brain associating exercise with something that isn’t fun to do or even - something they hate.

Once this mental blockade is created, results with your fitness program are not as good as they should be or even worse…it causes you to quit altogether.

But this mental image CAN be changed.

And I think it all starts with creating the best motivational environment for yourself that will shift your thinking.

This means your spouse, significant other, best friend or whoever you associate yourself most with MUST be on the same page with you when it comes to your fitness goals.

If they have no intent on ever exercising, like to drink, smoke, eat crap, etc,…it’s going to make it a lot more difficult for you to succeed.

My wife, Brighid, is a perfect example.

Ever since she hired one of my trainers last year, she is a different person.  Her mental image towards exercise has completely changed.  Not saying she loves it, but she is definitely more accountable.

Not only that, but before she met with Erich (one of my trainers), her idea of exercise was just doing cardio.  But now, she consistently strength trains 3x a week in addition to her cardio exercise.

Now, when we moved to St. Louis a couple weeks ago, I was worried that she was going to stop doing her strength training routine since she would no longer be training with Erich.  But to my surprise, not only did she not stop, she asked ME to train with her!

So for the past 3 weeks, Brighid and I have been workout buddies in our basement and I see this trend continuing for a long time to come.  How’s that for extra motivation baby!

And before you think “Oh, well you’re a personal trainer Jim, you don’t need the additional motivation.”

Well, think again.

Having my wife train with me is HUGE.  I don’t care how big of a fitness-nut you are, (like myself) you can NEVER go wrong with more motivation.  Period.

Having an additional voice that not only stays on me with my nutritional goals, but ALSO works out with me as well is like a dream come true!

I recommend YOU putting yourself in the same position.  And no, it doesn’t have to be your wife or husband, but someone who IS into working out.

And if you don’t know or can’t find anyone who can partner up with you to exercise, the best thing you can do is invest in my platinum/gold program – http://www.fitnessandresults.com/tihpt_platinum_gold.php

Seriously, there is no other program that comes close to simulating working out with someone mono y mono like my platinum/gold program.  And better yet, that someone is ME!

Here’s what one of my former clients had to say about The In-Home Personal Trainer Platinum edition program the other day:

Have you ever wanted a personal trainer but can't afford the cost? Are your workouts at very inconvenient times? Do you need someone to push you in order to that 3rd or 4th set of intervals but don't have the motivation to hire an actual trainer? Are your workouts lacking in variety therefore you are no longer seeing the results you want?

Well, if any of the above apply I can honestly say that using the The In-Home Personal Trainer DVD workouts is not the next-best-thing but rather equally as productive as hiring an excellent trainer to train you himself. I can say this first-hand because I did hire Jim himself and he trained me in my home for 6 weeks. Over 2 years later he gave me his videos to try and I felt like we were back to training together. These tapes are no-frills. There is no annoying techno music playing in the back and there is no skinny barbie-doll woman in thongs making you feel less beautiful or in shape.

It is exactly the way he trains as if he were there next to you talking you through the exercises and motivating you to push yourself beyond your limits. He even laughs at himself when he says something funny or mis-counts the same way he did when he trained me. It is the best way to get a thorough at-home workout for those who don't have the resources, time or motivation to do it alone. The best part is that it is in the convenience of your own home at your own schedule and you get to decide your level of intensity.  I highly recommend Jim's DVD workouts for anyone like myself who knows they want results and needs the variety and extra push without the need to schedule an appointment.

My First Soccer Game in 13 Years

As you may or may not know, I used to play soccer back when I was a young buck (9 to be exact) and continued all the way up through middle and high school.

In addition to all the other sports I’ve played in my life such as football and baseball, soccer is definitely my favorite.  To me, it’s a game that not only requires a high level of athletic skill, but also a large amount of superior conditioning as well.

I was first introduced to the sport when I lived in The Netherlands back in 1985.  And it was only inevitable that I learn the sport right away as they eat, drink and sleep it over there.  To them, soccer is what football is to us.  It’s HUGE.

Well, just yesterday, I played my first soccer game in over 13 years!

My brother-in-law, who I now live near, is part of a league and asked me a couple months ago if I would be interested in playing.

At first I wasn’t sure.  Between business and spending time with my wife, I didn’t think I could fit it into my schedule.

But after getting the ok from Brighid (yes, I do make my own decisions :), and my brother-in-law, Rich, reminding me about it again a couple days ago – I was all about it!

Now as you know, I consider myself in great shape.  I do The In-Home Personal Trainer circuits 3x a week with my wife in our basement, and I some type of cardio at least 5x a week.

At 31, I believe I’m in better shape than I was back in high school at 18, so I wasn’t in the least bit intimidated by starting up again.  And even though this was indoor soccer I was going to be playing and I was primarily used to outdoor, I still thought I’d be fine and ready for the action.

Before our game started, I watched the closing minutes of two other teams playing and the adrenaline immediately started to pump through my veins.  I was excited and ready to go!

We warmed up for 5 minutes and the game soon got under way.

Well, I would soon find out that I was in for the rudest awakening because after only 6 minutes into the first quarter, I was freaking EXHAUSTED!  Seriously, I thought my lungs were going to explode out of my chest!

Even though I have been doing cardio almost every day since I have become a trainer, it didn’t matter one i-ota, my body wasn’t even close to being prepared for THIS type shock.
And that’s because I soon discovered that indoor soccer it’s MUCH faster paced than outdoor.  I mean, I was basically sprinting the ENTIRE game.  Not running mind you…sprinting!

While outdoor is challenging and you’re running a lot, it’s a bigger field with more players (11) per team and allows you to recover more quickly.

But with indoor, there are only 5 players a team, a much smaller field and the pace is lightning fast.  Within seconds you’re catapulted all over the field playing both offense and defense.  And let me tell you, it’s the most psycho cardio workout you’ll ever do in your life!

I would not doubt that while I was out there, my heart rate was at 90-100 percent of its maximum threshold…even though it felt like 150!

By the time the fourth quarter came around, I was beat.

THANK GOD there were subs that could fill in throughout the game, because I’m not sure if my arse would have survived being out in the field for 4 – 12 minute quarters.  I barely made it through 3.

Anyway, the score was tied at 2 through 2 quarters, but the other team managed to pull away from us and we ended up losing 6-3.  Bummer.

According to Rich, the opposing team aka, “The Ballers”, were the best in the league.  (Just my luck they were my first game.:)  But considering they were all in their late teens / early twenties and had been playing together for years I didn’t feel that bad.

WOW, what an experience.

Even though I was completely zonked after the game, I was already thinking about the next time we were going to play.  The way I see it, I get an amazing workout, I’m playing a sport I love and I get to meet some new people along the way.  Not too shabby.

Now, I don’t recommend YOU going the same route I did (unless you’re insane :), but
I DO recommend picking up some type of recreational sport you like…i.e., racquetball, tennis, softball, volleyball, golf and so on... in addition to your normal strength and cardio training every week if you can fit it in.

It would be a great change of pace for you and after all, it’s better than sitting on your couch watching the idiot box…right?

That’s all for now.  Hope you have a nice day.

Enough with the Gimmicks Already

We all know that fitness infomercials are total scams.  We all know they’ll say or pay someone to say just about ANYTHING to get you to buy their worthless crap.

Yet what really irritates me to no end is to see fitness experts that you’re supposed to trust going in this similar direction with the products they promote.  Many act like they’ve got this special angle or twist that makes their program the best thing since sliced bread.

Yet 99.9% of the time this angle isn’t something that will necessarily help the individual, but rather, it’s something they know the consumer will want to hear to increase the chances of them buying their product.

The most blatant twist, angle, gimmick or whatever you want to call it, is the false impression these so-called gurus give you about cardio exercise.  A lot like to say you DON’T need cardio and it’s a complete waste of time.

I was just reading a post from a popular fitness buff the other day, who I won’t name, with the title ‘Cardio is a Joke.’  To summarize, he goes on and on to explain how long, low-intensity cardio isn’t necessary and all you REALLY need to do are his revolutionary strength training workouts 3x a week for 20 minutes at a time.  That’s it.

He then makes the analogy that if you were to look at people in an aerobics room they’re all mostly fat and out of shape, yet if you look at individuals in the weight training room, you’ll see more sculpted, leaner-looking bodies.

Now, if you were to look at things from his skewed point of view, he’s partially right.

If all you did was low-intensity cardio and neglected strength training, then yes, you wouldn’t really change your body much.  And yeah, I would agree that strength training is more effective than cardio conditioning.  Can’t argue these points.

But where this guy goes horribly wrong is to say that “all you need are his revolutionary strength training workouts 3x a week for 20 minutes.”  It’s quite obvious the only reason he’s saying this is because he knows people will be enticed by the ‘3x a week for 20 minutes’ hook.

I mean, who wouldn’t want to workout 3x a week for 20 minutes at a time?  I sure as he double hockey sticks would! :)

Yet the truth is - it’s a bunch of horse manure.  I don’t care what kind of strength training you’re doing 3 times a week for twenty minutes.  It ain’t enough to get you into tip-top shape.

Is this guy trying to tell me that if I were stick an overweight woman on a program that has her do strength training 3x a week for 20 minutes at a whack as opposed to have her doing a program of strength training 3x a week for 20 minutes AND doing cardio 4x a week for 30 minutes at a time...the woman would get BETTER results from the first routine?

You, me and this swindler all know the answer.

Yes, it may not be as sexy as the first routine, but we all know the truth.  Even if you’re walking 4x a week for 30 minutes at a time, it STILL is putting your body in a much better position to lose weight and get into better shape than JUST doing strength training.

Now, you’ll eventually want to progress the walk to a walk-jog…then jog…then jog-run and so on, but the bottom line is…you absolutely, positively need cardio in addition to your strength training to get to the next level.

Please don’t be fooled into believing you don’t because chances are good, you’re being sold a fraudulent ‘solution’ or ‘gimmick’ that is telling the lazy side of your brain what it wants to hear.

Now, it’s possible you may think I’m one of these scammers too.  You may think I’m shoveling the same shitaku (is that a word? lol :) as the rest of them.  Yet the truth is, my program, The In-Home Personal Trainer isn’t a gimmick and it doesn’t have some B.S. angle or twist that tries to get over on you.

My program IS however all about giving you options.

Options that make incorporating exercise into your life easier and more productive.  Options that eliminate all your excuses and help you work out on your own terms.  Options that will finally have you getting the results you want with your fitness routine.

If you want to learn more about these options I just mentioned PLUS even more options in which you can save over 50 percent off the normal price of my program AND get a bunch of other awesome stuff absolutely FREE – then gallop on over here right NOW – http://www.fitnessandresults.com/the_inhome_trainer.php You’ll be so glad you did.

Why My Wife Won’t Talk to Me

No, no, it’s not that bad, but let me explain.

As you know, I launched The In-Home Personal Trainer platinum/gold package about 4 months ago and it received a great response.  Many of you have gotten the program, used it, and have raved about it. (BTW, testimonials will be coming soon for it! :)

However, some of you have sent me emails telling me that while the platinum/gold program looks to be worth the moola, you would really like to see more of an introductory program that isn’t as comprehensive and also less expensive.

Well, I can totally understand.  The economy isn’t as good as it was a year ago.  Gas prices are through the roof.  I spend almost 50 bucks just to fill up my tank today…geez.:(

And yeah, I can see that if you don’t know me from Adam, you’re probably very skeptical about investing in my platinum/gold edition.  You would much rather prefer more of a test-drive type program and not the whole enchilada.  Understood.

So I’ve decided to cut you a break.  I’ve decided to offer you The In-Home Personal Trainer program at 50 percent off the normal price.  Not only that, but I’ve even assembled a special package in which you can get The In-Home Personal Trainer manual along with a bunch of other goodies – absolutely f-r-e-e!

Yes, some people think I’m crazy for doing this.  Hence the reason I got into a big argument with my wife.  She said, “Why are you doing this?  You should leave things the way they are.  There’s no need to be discounting your products and giving stuff away for free.”

Part of me agrees with her.  But the other part says - screw it - I know more good than bad will come from this, so that’s why I’m doing it.

My mission in life is to get YOU into the best shape of your life and I’m willing to do whatever it takes to make that happen.  So if that means giving my stuff away for free…so be it!

To learn more about how to take advantage of this very special offer, I suggest you read this ENTIRE letter which can be found by going here –  http://www.fitnessandresults.com/the_inhome_trainer.php

My webmaster just posted some brand-new testimonials in the letter that I’m sure you’ll enjoy as well!

Have a nice day.

Yours in Total Fitness & Maximum Success,

Jim Coughlin

P.S. This is by far the best offer I can possibly make you.  You’d be nuts not to take advantage of this.  Again, I am offering my program at 50 percent off and also giving stuff away for NUTIN.  Yes, you read that right.  Jump on this NOW while supplies last! Go here - http://www.fitnessandresults.com/the_inhome_trainer.php for more info.

I’m Baaack!

I know you haven’t heard from me in a couple weeks and it’s for good reason.  I just went through one heck of a move.

Man, driving 16 hours across 5 states through rain, sleet and snow in a huge Uhaul truck AND with my car towed behind it was anything but easy.

Prior to the move, Brighid and I spent at least 3 weeks packing everything in our house so our move would go smoothly.

Though, problem was, we knew the 14’ truck Uhaul recommended wasn’t going to be big enough to fit all of our stuff.  Even though we told them we wanted a bigger truck, they insisted that 14 feet was big enough for a one-bed room apartment.

Well, sure enough when the movers were done packing everything, we had some remaining furniture and boxes that couldn’t fit.

So instead of being all ready to go the night before the big drive, (we were going to leave at 6am in the morning) we spent 6-7 hours scrambling to get a hitch and a trailor to put on Brighid's car, because if we didn’t, the alternative would be to throw this stuff away…which my wife wasn’t having.

So we ended up not getting to bed until 1 am the night before…and let me tell you, we paid for it the next day…big time!

Thank God for Red Bull, which I had at least 4 of during the drive and don’t laugh…classical music…but even that didn’t last long, because trying to find a radio station was damn near impossible when driving through Maryland, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois…unless you’re ok with mainly hearing static.

I did make some phone calls along the way to keep busy, but how many can you make to fill 16 hours?  Not many. (lol)

Anyway, the good news is, after all that, Brighid and I safely arrived in St. Louis and we’re finally getting settled in our new home. (which we LOVE).

I will be sure to get back on track sending you some fitness and motivational tips very soon.  I’ve also been working on some other projects that are in the works and close to being finalized.  Can’t wait to share them with you!

More to come.

Best,

Jim Coughlin

P.S.  If you ever have to move, DO NOT go through Uhaul!
